I like the title Carol picked for this episode. On this week’s episode, we chatted about collecting flower seeds, growing beets, a new book on garlic, witches bottles and more, more, more. How do you like it?
Carol’s favorite thing this week was her orange zinnias. Mine were my oak trees that have been through an ice storm and a wildfire. Although I lost many, many trees in the Simpson wildfire in March 2023, these trees still stand tall.
Carol had a big anniversary this past week. Her blog is 20 years old. Mine will be 18 in October. That’s how we met by the way. Here is her 20th anniversary blog post.
Our flower topic was about saving seeds the easy way. Go listen to hear our tips.
Then, we moved on to our vegetables which are beets. I love beets so I’ve grown them, but I haven’t had that much success. The photo below shows my most successful harvest. Still, I may try to grow them again. I’m ever hopeful.
I’ve been planting garlic in my garden this week, and on the bookshelf is: The Garlic Companion: Recipes, Crafts, Preservation Techniques, and Simple Ways to Grow Your Own, by Kristin Graves. (Amazon link) (Her Instagram is FifthGenGardens.) Carol and I both love this book, which even has garlic recipes.
For our dirt, Carol taught us more about witches bottles because we’re doing spooky things for October! We then discussed how you’re Never Home Alone: From Microbes to Millipedes, Camel Crickets, and Honeybees, the Natural History of Where We Live, by Rob Dunn (Amazon Link.) Carol read this book a while back.
In our rabbit holes, I learned how to get rid of skunk oil and scent, well, most of it anyway. Listen to the episode to hear how I got into this stinky predicament.
Carol’s rabbit hole was about those witches bottles, and now she’s tracing who told her about the Lost Ladies of Garden Writing.
We both received Duluth Trading Company Bib Overalls. Thank you Duluth!
