Well, it’s the calm before the storms in Oklahoma anyway, so Carol and I got together, virtually, of course. On this week’s episode, we talked about tips for growing big zinnias, vegetable garden infrastructure, and a lovely tip-filled book by Anya Lautenbach.
But, before all that, we discussed my new Castleton Shell Pink china made in the 1950s. What does china have to do with gardening? Listen next week to find out.
Carol went to garden club last week where they learned about the Ergonomics of Gardening. So interesting!

I bet you’re all thrilled we again discussed zinnias, but we read more about them on Floret Flowers, and learned a thing or two. I mentioned my zinnia support system for my 4’ x 4’ raised beds. The elastic grid is black so it doesn’t show up against the zinnia stems. I like that.
Carol fleshed out our veggie topic about creating the structure of the vegetable garden. We mentioned one of our favorite hand tools, the Cobrahead weeder.

I talked about The Money-Saving Garden Year, a month-by-month guide to a great garden that costs less, by Anya Lautenbach. (Amazon link). On Instagram, she is known as Anya the Garden Fairy. We’ve both followed Anya for years, and she has great tips.
Carol researched our dirt. Does cinnamon prevent fungus gnats? Listen to hear what we think.
We talked about several other books this week, including:
Epic Tomatoes: How to Select & Grow the Best Varieties of All Time by Craig LeHoullier
The Heirloom Gardener: Traditional Plants and Skills for the Modern World by John Forte
Jane Austen at Home by Lucy Worsley
