We’re back, and would love for you to stroll with us as we continue our travels through the alphabet. This week it’s all about the letter G. To listen a day early, click here, and thanks for subscribing to our free newsletter.
The weather is still kinda crazy in Oklahoma and Indiana so we spent some time discussing it. Our teaser was about my granddaughter Maddie asking me whether a particular plant was real. Here’s that plant. You can understand her confusion.
Carol’s favorite is in our first photo above. Mine is Supertunia Honey petunia. Just look at that color.
I also shared an Instagram reel on planting my Marian Garden next to my house. It was part of my update. Carol was super busy getting ready for Easter. She hosts the world’s greatest family Easter egg hunt.
Also, Carol was given some Muck Boots to try, and she’s enjoying them.
What “G” flowers did we discuss? Geraniums, in the form of tropical pelargoniums, and geums. I dearly love geraniums, and I think I’ve got Carol on the geranium bandwagon, too. She ordered a few this spring from Select Seeds. I’ve written several blog posts on pelargoniums: here and here. Carol shared about her intro to the geranium universe. She also found a great plant stand at Aldi’s.
Carol and I first saw geums at the Lurie Garden in Chicago years ago. We fell in love with Geum triflorum, prairie smoke. I’ve tried to grow it twice and failed both times. However, we’ve both had great luck with Totally Tangerine.
We again discussed garlic and green beans for our vegetable topic. Remember when we reviewed The Garlic Companion by Kristin Graves (Amazon link?) We’ve talked about garlic and green beans many times so I won’t go into it on here. Listen for more.
On our bookshelf, we discussed Plants with Superpowers by David Domoney (Amazon link.) It’s a very interesting book that we enjoyed.
Our dirt was about Italian terra-cotta and Vietnamese terra-cotta. They are supposed to be the two strongest type of terra-cotta.
In my rabbit hole, I looked for pot feet and found this potter in Georgia who makes terra cotta from Georgia clay. Here are my froggy pot feet.
Also, I found a series of talks P. Allen Smith gave with the first one on peonies. Very soothing.
Carol’s rabbit hole was how she joined the Herb Society of America where she recently spoke. She also went looking for one Lost Lady of Garden Writing, and she found twin sisters.
