In this week’s episode, Carol and I discussed growing petunias from seed, growing the multi-colored world of sweet potatoes, and reading Monty Don's new book.
First off, Carol’s favorite new thing is her oakleaf hydrangea. From the photo, above, I can sure see why. We’ve both been swamped in our gardens. I’m prepping for several groups to visit my garden, and Carol is still in go-time adding plants and planting seeds.
I’m growing old-fashioned, heirloom climbing petunia this year from Select Seeds and
Success! Silver Vein petunias. I’m not sure where the silver vein comes in, but hey, I think they’re very pretty. Carol and I also both love Wave Carmine Velour petunias, an AAS winner. What an extraordinary color!
Why is there a photo of my onions? Because Carol thought they were very pretty. I did harvest them this week, and I can say they are delicious!
Carol hasn’t ever grown sweet potatoes, but, because I have grown them many times, I thought they would be fun to discuss for our vegetable topic. Although Johnny’s Selected Seeds is out of purple sweet potatoes, maybe we could grow them next year.
Carol found The Gardening Book by Monty Don (Amazon Link) for our bookshelf this week. We both love it. Of course, we do!
Our dirt this week is local to me. Pugh Gardens was showcased on our local television station, and the interview is now on YouTube. It’s a beautiful and large garden, and Daniel and Ruthie Pugh are good friends. I’ve been to their garden several times.
In addition to all of these topics, we talked about many other things. Here are some lovely links to tell you more after you listen to the podcast episode. If you don’t listen, you won’t understand how these fit into this week’s episode.
