This week’s episode is like a hot cup of tea and a warm slice of sourdough bread because Dee and I discussed grandmacore gardening and what it means to us.

We chatted about the flowers we think of when we think of Grandma’s garden and reminisced about homegrown vegetables. We don’t have a lot of links but if you like old-fashioned varieties for your flower or vegetable garden, check out Select Seeds, Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, or Seed Savers Exchange.

On the bookshelf, Dee and I shared a new book coming out on March 11: Pansies: How to Grow, Reimagine, and Create Beauty with Pansies and Violas by Brenna Estrada (Amazon). We were both excited about it. Thank you to Timber Press for sending us review copies!

Our dirt was about all the articles out there about the grandmacore trend, like this one: More on the Grandmacore trend.
Down in our rabbit holes, Dee is making gluten-free sourdough bread. One of the cookbooks she is using is Cannelle et Vanille Bakes Simple: A New Way to Bake Gluten-Free by Aran Goyoaga (Amazon). She also tried to tempt me to subscribe to Netflix by talking about the show, La Dolce Villa. Yes, it has a grandmacore connection! On her reading list right now is The Secret War of Julia Child by Diana R. Chambers (Amazon).
I’m still reading Jane Austen at Home (Amazon) by Lucy Worsley and added Jane Austen’s Bookshelf by Rebecca Romney (Amazon) to my bookshelf this week. That’s in addition to reading more about geraniums, which would fit in nicely in a grandmacore garden.

Dee, You will be glad to hear that for me, grandma core flowers would be zinnias! Seeds were Gathered each year and planted the next year. Carol, I can definitely relate to your issues with the post office. We had the same thing happened to us. The Atlanta distribution center moved to a bigger location in Palmetto, Georgia late last year. It was so bad, and the holidays made it even worse. People were in an uproar! It ended up being an issue in the US Congress! They were told they needed to get their act together or else! It’s a little better, but we still have instances where you have no idea what happened to your package or letter. Finally, Grandma Core. Boy, there were some things I really would not want to bring back, but I have to admit there is one I have been thinking about recently. The tissue box cover. It was usually crocheted or some other tacky craft that covered your tissue boxes. They hung around forever collecting dust. However… I have become so tired of trying to find a tissue box that somewhat goes with my decor that I have started thinking, the tissue box cover may make a comeback in my house!
Love y’all and all you bring up in your wonderful podcast. June
