Happy New Gardening Year!
We hope you are enjoying this holiday season! If you are confused about what day it is… welcome to the club! Today is Tuesday, December 31, 2024, but we made it more confusing by dating this newsletter January 1, 2025 because that’s when an episode would have been published, except, we are still on pause.
We took two weeks off!
But never fear! Our first episode of 2025 will drop into your podcast feeds on January 8, 2025. This really means you can listen to it on January 7th if you get this newsletter, and it appears that you do! Thank you for subscribing to it.
To entertain you ever so briefly before our next episode, we’re sharing some year-end stats sent to us by Buzzsprout, our podcast-hosting company, earlier in December.
First, we found out we are a top 10% podcast based on downloads. Thank you for that!
We are most popular in Oklahoma City, with Indianapolis a distant second. (Note from Carol: Come on Indianapolis gardeners, get with the program!) This makes Dee laugh.
The most popular episodes from last year were “Shoulda Woulda Coulda: Garden Edition” from April, followed by “Beebalm, Beans, and a Bunch of Wild Garden Banter” from May. You also liked “Every Garden is Unique, But Gardening is Universal,” “Preparing, Planting, No Time for Pausing,” and “Sowing Seeds for Another Garden Podcast Episode.” If you missed any of these episodes, you can go hit them up while we work on our next episode.
By the way, our all-time most downloaded episode is a little pre-Christmas episode from December 1, 2021, titled “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.” It’s probably due to the title being so similar to a popular Christmas song.
Also new in 2024… Fan Mail! We love that we now receive Fan Mail from listeners, a new feature Buzzsprout added this year that allows you to text us a message from your phone. When you send that text, we get an email, but we don’t have the ability to respond. But we love getting them, and in 2025, we plan to add a note that if you want a response, you should include your email address in the text.
And finally, before we sign off and schedule this newsletter, and carry on with our pause, we’d like to thank our subscribers. Your monthly contributions help us pay for podcast hosting! We are grateful for each of you.
As we start going through our seed catalogs, we wish each and every one of you a Happy New Year.
Your podcast and garden friends,
Dee and Carol
I anxiously await next week. I never miss an episode. Happy New Year.
🍾🥂A toast to gardeners everywhere, 👩🌾!
