Laughing Through Summer Gardening - That's All You Can Do Sometimes
Season 4, Episode 35, July 6, 2022
Hello Listeners!
Thanks for finding our substack newsletter where we feature more expanded show notes for our weekly podcast, The Gardenangelists.
Here’s the link to this week’s episode or you can listen via your favorite podcast app.
This week, we decided to talk about hydrangeas, and in particular Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’, one of our native hydrangeas. Thanks to Dee for providing the picture showing the pollinators that are visiting one of hers.
Of course, we talked about a few other hydrangeas. Here are the links we mentioned:
Then we moved on to cilantro. Do you like it? Do you hate it? Do you grow it to have some to put in homemade salsa? I wrote an article about growing cilantro for Family Handyman. Check it out if you need want more information.
On the bookshelf, we featured A Year Full of Flowers by Sarah Raven (Amazon Link). I checked out a copy from the library, showed it to Dee, and then she decided she would buy a copy because her library didn’t have it and she wanted it anyway. Listen to the podcast to find out what her book’s fate is going to be!
For our dirt segment, we talked about regenerative agriculture. Check out the Farmer Lee Jones video and The Pollinators documentary on Amazon Prime for more details. You won’t look at farms the same way ever again.
Dee decided that was her rabbit hole - regenerative farming. She gave us an update on what the couple who were in the documentary The Biggest Little Farm have been up to and what they have coming out next.
I started a new jigsaw puzzle: A Year of the Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. As I write this, I would guess I have about one-third of it put together. I also spent too much time online looking at my downfall, blank notebooks and cute stickers, like stickers from Mochithings that look like pressed violets! They really do look like pressed flowers!
Shall we wrap this up with Dee's post on Japanese beetles? And two corrections. One thing about a podcast is you can’t really go back and edit your mistakes. At one point when we were talking about honeybees, I said bumblebees. I also said ‘Ruby’ when I meant ‘Quick Fire’. Shrug. It happens.
Thanks for listening. Tell all your friends!
