In this week’s episode, we talked about planning in the garden for both flowers and vegetables, another new cookbook, and we cut into the topic of pruners.
When you listen, you’ll soon figure out why we say nothing about gardening is quick. It may seem quick when you plant up a beautiful container like Dee’s two containers pictured here by her front door.
After all, how long did it take Dee to plant those pots in those containers? An hour? Add another hour for shopping for the plants to put in them? That’s two hours. Not too bad. A good investment of two hours, if you ask me!
Then add 34 years of figuring out what grew best in those containers in that location.
See? Gardening is not quick.
Now on to some show notes…
For our flower topic, we talked about what you should consider when planning a flower garden. Check out Dee’s post for more good info on this topic: It's time to plan for next year's garden - Red Dirt Ramblings®.
Ditto the veggie topic. What should you consider when planning to grow vegetables? Then swing over and check out my YouTube video about using a Trello board to plan and track your garden. And here’s the link to the podcast episode we did in the early days about how to grow a basic summer vegetable garden.
On the bookshelf, Dee found another cookbook to love! The Apricot Lane Farms Cookbook: Recipes and Stories from the Biggest Little Farm, by Molly Chester with Sarah Owens (Amazon link). Will she accept my challenge? Listen to find out.
For our dirt, we direct you to this article, Cutting Edge Technology: History of Seceuters. Some of our favorite pruners today include this set of little pruners and shears. Of course, you can’t go wrong with Felcos, but make sure to try the different sizes. And bonus link. Those Dramm pruners Dee loves? Here’s a link to them. They come in several colors!
Down in the rabbit hole, I spent some more time with Lizzie Page Hillhouse and wrote a post about forcing Lily of the Valley into bloom, 1897 style. Let us know if you are considering trying this.
Dee found another series she loves and is savoring! La Pitchoune: Cooking in France - Official Trailer | Magnolia Network.
That’s it! Let’s wrap this up with the usual stuff:
