Hi ladies. I so enjoy your show! I watched the Oklahoma gardening just yesterday about irises. I have Siberian irises and I’ve had them for about 20 years and they have multiplied like crazy and are just all bunched up. I’ve already dug a bunch of them up over the last two years, but I still have a couple of sizable stands of them, After listening to your podcast this afternoon, I went outside and dug a section of them up to separate, and re-plant them, further apart. When I re-plant them, do I expose the top of the bulb above the soil? Did I understand Dee correctly? Thank you so much for any advice you can give me! I always laugh and laugh when I listen to y’all. It just makes my day.
Hi Deri, I’ll be honest I’m not sure about Siberian irises. On the podcast, we were talking about German or bearded irises. Those are the ones that I would plant the corm right at the surface of the soil and not mulch it. As for Siberian irises, I really don’t know. I grow a few, but I have never had a lot of luck with them. So, you’re doing better than me. Thank you so much for listening and I would say do a little research on what they require.
Thank you Dee for your reply. I did some YouTube video watching yesterday on all types of irises and Siberian irises. I went ahead and dug them all up because they were so crowded. I’m going to re-plant a few of them with the root/corm just right above the ground and see if I can get them to bloom. I’ll let you know how they do! I hope to give a bunch of them away at our garden club.
