Are we losing our minds in the spring garden?
In this week’s podcast episode, we might have mentioned something along those lines, but honestly, with the kind of spring we both enjoy, it’s hard to stay grounded and focused. There are flowers to appreciate! Annuals to plant! Crowds to encounter at every garden center! Vegetable gardens to sow!
And weeds to pull!
Always the weeds.
I love our “fairly new” favorites section of the podcast. My favorite this week was a flower I planted in my sisters’ condo garden, and then promptly forgot the name of. Then I saw it blooming last week, and I want it for myself! I figured out it is Erigeron ‘Azure Fairy’ but I don’t know where I bought it. Dee did some looking and said I could order it from Digging Dog Nursery if I don’t find it locally.
So nice of her to do that for me. Always ready to enable our Dee.
For Dee’s favorite… listen to find out what it was!
For our actual flower topic, we talked about geum flowers, particularly ‘Totally Tangerine' geum from Proven Winners.
I still want to add some prairie smoke, Geum triflorum, to my pink garden.
What prompted us to talk about Geums? Dee saw a segment on Gardeners’ World, Episode 5 about the national geum collection in Great Britain. Sometimes, one enthusiastic gardener is all it takes!
Then we talked about strawberries for our vegetable topic. Listeners, Dee’s garden coaching clients, and readers ask many questions about growing strawberries, and we’re happy to answer them on the podcast. We discussed an All-America Selection strawberry, DeLizz, that you can grow from seed. I conjured up C. Z. Guest and her advice on strawberries. Finally, we mentioned that I wrote an article for Family Handyman, How To Winterize Strawberry Plants.
On the bookshelf, we discussed The Thousand Year Old Garden: Inside the Secret Garden at Lambeth Palace by Nick Stewart Smith (Amazon Link). I saw this book online somewhere and pre-ordered it. We both love it; listen to find out why.
For our dirt, we introduced a survey we read about nostalgia flowers. We then discussed some flowers we are nostalgic about. We’d love to hear about any flowers you find nostalgic. Leave a comment to tell us about them!
In our rabbit holes, Dee mentioned writing a blog post about gardening with Alpha-gal syndrome, which she finished over the weekend. It’s quite good! She also ate something new to her and said it was quite good, too. What was it? Of course, you should listen to this episode to find out.
I mentioned my latest Lost Lady of Garden Writing, Elvenia Slosson. Then I fell down a rabbit hole that led YouTube to recommend a documentary, The Pilgrim’s Way to Britain’s Great Cathedrals, Episode 1. Episode 2 just dropped this weekend.
And that’s another episode of our podcast!

I am not! Could you please ask her to take a photo? This is very curious, but it might be the Master Gardener group out of Denton County. They use our podcast for learning credits. Or maybe we have listeners at Atwood’s. I just hope they aren’t suggesting something that I wouldn’t suggest. Lol
So sorry! My sister got it mixed up and she read “Ramblings” on the tag. At least she was thinking about y’all! It’s Red Dirt tags which I have seen before. Didn’t realize they were from Guthrie though.
