Hello Dee and Carol! If you have room, might you add sorrel to your list of "S" plants? Many years ago we could buy an herb mix at the long-gone Crescent Market in Nichols Hills. OKC's Trader Joes occupies that space now. That herb mix included sorrel, dill, nasturtium leaves & flowers, and sometimes tiny violas, too. I loved that mix, and now grow sorrel & dill to add to my salads. Those little sour bites make the salads sparkle!

I've put sorrel on the list. I've never grown it but now I want to! Thanks!

It seems to be hardy in Oklahoma. I use it through the winter.

Too funny ladies, I was just getting ready to post a pic of instagram of my Balsam. It was in my KY gardens and a thug and hitchhiked its way up here while I was transplanting plants to bring up. However, it grows prolifically here and the bees and butterflies love the blooms. So before it reaches the seed pod stage I will move it to the meadows. Because I Touch It Not, when the seeds are ripe or I will have it everywhere, forever and ever.

Good to know it's true what they say about it! I don't have it here but sounds like I'd better not try to grow it. I have enough "everywhere, forever and ever" plants.

Hi Dee and Carol,

Really enjoyed the Q episode! A few comments:

Where can I see the Elephant Ear Dee mentioned?

We have had Jap Beetles in Georgia for many years. Horrible things!

Thanks for the information on the Queenie lime orange zinnia being easier to grow. I have not had success with Queenie lime but will try the orange now.

I really like to use Queen Anne’s lace in arrangements. But I just pick it from the side of the road. I also try to grow dill, but they struggles for me. I did get a couple few flowerheads that I’ve picked and using arrangements. I’d love walking by and smelling the fragrance of the dill. Are there other umble flower heads you can suggest?

Finally thanks so much for the smile you put on my face as I listen to your podcast while driving! 🥰

Hi June, I found that elephant ear at Under the Sun in Edmond, although I buy them all over. I tried to get a photo for the newsletter, but the monsoon three-inch rain ruined the leaves. I'll try later when it grows again. The variety name is 'Redemption.' There are many umbels out there, and these are becoming more popular because of flower farmers. The two that are popular now are Dara and Ammi 'Green Mist' I think. Bronze fennel is also an umbel.
